2024 IPL cricket matches

The 2024 Indian Premier League takes place from March 22 through May 26. This year’s version is the 17th edition of the IPL, organized under the Twent20 (T20) cricket league in India.

The tournament features 10 teams, with the Chennai Super Kings serving as the defending champions. The club won its fifth title last year after defeating Gujarat Titans. That made them the most successful club in IPL history.

Over the two months of the IPL tournament, there will be 74 exciting matches to watch. That means there’s a lot of snacking that will take place, too.

Indian (and Western) snacks recipes

If you want to satisfy your guest at a 2024 IPL watching party, consider making some delicious Indian and Western snacks recipes. Below are some of the most popular snacks recipes to enjoy watching the cricket season.

Vada Pav: Savory Spiced Potato Burger

Vada Pav is a savory spiced potato burger that’s tremendously popular throughout the country. It’s a fast food item that’s vegetarian, consistently of a potato fritter (Vada) that’s deep fried and placed between soft, fluffy bread called Pav.

Like any burger, Vada Pav is typically dressed with condiments, most commonly a chutney that can be made with tamarind or coriander, and/or a dry chutney that’s spicy.

Vada Pav is a simple Indian dish that everyone at your party will love. If you love potatoes, you can also check out our other potato recipes.

Honey Chilli Butter-Glazed Cob Loaf

Pull-apart breads are all the rage at sports-watching parties, and this honey chilli butter-glazed cob loaf is a great option for your guests as you’re watching cricket.

For this recipe, you’ll use a round loaf of bread and score it in a cross pattern, cutting almost all the way (but not all the way) through the bread. Then, you’ll mix together room temperature butter, chilli flakes and honey, and spread it all over the loaf.

Bake the loaf for just a few minutes until the butter melts and the bread gets crisp. Once out of the oven, sprinkle with some more chilli flakes (to taste), extra honey, coriander leaves and sesame seeds … then enjoy!

Aromatic Garlic Flavored Bread Fingers

Flatbreads are great to enjoy while watching the cricket season, because they’re easy to eat with your hands and pair with a delicious dipping sauce.

For this recipe, you’ll make a simple flatbread with flour, fast rise dry yeast and even some garlic powder. After rolling out the loaf on a pan, spread it on top with some more garlic powder, olive oil and some other herbs of your choice.

Then, bake it in the oven, and let it cool for about 10 minutes before you cut it. You can serve it with a simple marinara sauce to give it an Italian-American feel, or make a chutney.

Crispy Potato Wedges with Zesty Green Chilli and Lime Seasoning

Here’s another great potato recipe that would make for a great accompaniment to your cricket watching party.

Slice your potatoes into wedges, and add them to a mixing bowl. Drizzle them with olive oil and toss to make sure they’re completely covered, then bake them for about 45 minutes until they’re crispy.

As the potatoes are baking, whip up a quick and tasty green chili and lime aioli. This can consist of plain yogurt, fresh lime juice and green chillis for some kick. Add other seasonings such as spices and herbs to your tasting, mix it all together and serve it as a great dipping sauce.

Handcrafted Tangy Vinegar Potato Crisps

Potato chips are a staple at any party, whether you’re watching cricket or just getting together with friends. Instead of buying a plain old bag of chips from the store, though, why not make some handcrafted tangy vinegar potato crisps?

Russet potatoes are the best fit to make chips. Use a mandolin to slice them paper thin, then transfer them to an ice bath — which helps make them extra crispy when you fry them. You can also add some vinegar into the water to impart some of that flavor in now.

Rinse the potatoes and dry them, then fry them in a shallow pan with a little bit of oil for a few minutes. Lay them out in a single layer to drain the oil and allow them to cool. Then, sprinkle with them with salt and some vinegar powder.

Grilled Hot Dogs with Caramelized Onion and Bell Pepper Relish

Hot dogs are another staple of any American get-together. Kick the old dogs up a notch by serving a caramelized onion and bell pepper relish with it.

Simply slice some colored bell peppers and some onions — either yellow, red or some of both. Chop up some garlic and fry them all together in a pan with some red pepper flakes if you want a little heat.

Let them cook for about 15 minutes, then add some dry sherry as well as thyme sprigs and cook about another five to 10 minutes. Once all the ingredients are golden, stir some sherry vinegar and honey in to cook a few minutes more.

Make sure to remove the sprigs of thyme before you serve it, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
