Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit
On July 24, 1701, twenty-five canoes stopped at a high bluff on the Detroit River. The bluff is near Hart Plaza, which is today in downtown Detroit.
The French explorer Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac began construction on Fort Ponchartrain du Detroit, which was later renamed in his honor. On July 26, the feast day of Sainte Anne, mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus, they built a tiny chapel that they dedicated.
The Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit is an impressive sight. It has neo-Gothic architecture, incredible stained glass windows, impressive side altars and statues, and a dazzling starred ceiling. It is an important landmark in the City of Detroit.

John K. King Used and Rare Books
John K. King started his first store in Dearborn, Michigan, and then moved to the Michigan Theatre Building in downtown Detroit.
King filled up the whole building for a few years with his retail store. He used all four floors and even the basement. The store was so full that he had to put extra books and duplicates there.
